Care

for our sheep

At Choate Family Farms, there is no higher priority than our animals nutritional, physical, and mental well-being. We strive to provide a level of care for our sheep that is unmatched in the industry.

We create a tranquil and serene environment with all natural surroundings, allowing our sheep free-range access to promote stress-free, healthy animals.

Our pastures are plentiful and protected, encouraging optimal production and availability of the natural nutrients for the sheep.

We maintain low density habitats that include spring-fed water, minerals and high quality supplemental hay in addition to the sprawling pastures on which our sheep graze.
We ensure the planting of seasonal grasses to optimize the health of our pastures and our sheep.

We utilize pasture rotation, and rest periods between rotations, to strengthen our sheep’s natural immune system, enhance their overall wellbeing, and minimize the risk of over-utilizing the land.

Sheep recycle vital nutrients back into the soil which creates healthy and strong pastures and minimizes erosion.

We practice real time evaluation of nutritional needs based on developmental stages of each lamb.

Superior genetics, exceptional diet, and a stress-free environment make for the highest quality meat, resulting in a fresh, clean taste.

Ground lamb is perfect for spaghetti, lasagna, chili, burgers, or even meatloaf. It is an excellent source of B12 and zinc. Lamb can be used in place of beef in any recipe for an elevated dish. Try Choate Farms ground lamb today and taste the difference locally grown makes ✌🏻🤍🐑

I used your ground lamb the other day to make spaghetti. Lamb meat spaghetti in my Instant Pot. AWESOME! The subtle flavor of your lamb added to our meal. I have to brown the meat before I put it into the InstantPot. I have to add a bit of oil to my cast iron frying pan because your lamb is not overly fat! Last week I used your ground lamb for burgers. The flavor is beautifully delicate. Makes great burgers.

I have Choate Farm lamb burgers, steaks, liver, and kidneys in my freezer. Great people, and great meat!

Individuals’ commitment to a common vision and purpose is what motivates them to work together through teamwork and achieve a greater purpose.

Our sheep and us couldn’t be more happy to have Yordy, Giovanni, and Haddon as part of our team. They demonstrate a hard work ethic, a great attitude and a willingness to learn. And most importantly, they put the care for our animals first!

Mary Lyn and Larry are the foundation for our Family Farm. Mary Lyn’s compassion, love and natural mothering abilities are essential for establishing the level of care for our animals to flourish. Larry, an engineer, brings a very process oriented and thoughtful approach to bringing to life the habitat that our sheep thrive in.

Neither Mary Lyn or Larry see this as a job or work. It’s a passion and a way of living that gives them and the animals a purposeful life that they are able to enjoy with their children and their grandchildren. ✌🏻🤍🐑
